Now that the weather is warming up, don’t get caught off-guard this summer. Take the necessary precautions to ensure that your air conditioner (AC) runs smoothly when you need it the most. Use these five steps to ensure that your AC is ready to cool you down on the hottest days and help reduce the risk of a costly breakdown.

1. Adjust Your Thermostat

Typically, summer means new family routines and more time out of the house. We recommend setting your AC between 24-25°C in summer for optimal comfort and energy efficiency. Ensure it is set to ‘cool’ mode. If you go away on a summer vacation, turn your thermostat off in your absence.

2. Change Your Air Filter

A clogged or dirty air filter will reduce the efficiency of your AC and result in a build-up of dirt inside the unit. To keep your AC healthy and improve your indoor air quality, change the air filter at the start of the summer season. The good news is that you can easily replace the air filter yourself

3. Check the AC Exterior

Go outside and ensure that there is nothing obstructing the exterior AC unit. Clean up surrounding leaves and debris and prune back vegetation that may block airflow. Gently wipe the surface of the AC unit and fins if dirt is visible.

4. Maximise Airflow

While an AC can effectively cool your home in the summer, counteract the heat with ceiling and floor fans. This summer, a multi-cooling approach will take some of the pressure off your AC unit and save you money. For best results, set ceiling fans to a clockwise rotation.
