It can be very easy to tell if your home doesn’t have proper insulation. Not only will you be paying a lot in energy bills, but your house most likely won’t be warm. The insulation in your home could be lacking for many reasons. These include not enough insulation, not the right rating of insulation for your home and damp insulation.
3 Signs That Your Home Doesn’t Have Proper Insulation
Walls Feel Very Cold in Winter
If you go around your home and notice that the walls are colder than usual, you could have an insulation problem. Cold walls mean your furnace is not able to warm up the walls. If the walls were properly insulated, then insulation would prevent the cold from reaching the inside of the walls and they would feel warmer to the touch.
Cold Rooms
Do you find that some rooms in your home are colder than others? Well, this could be a sign of poor roof insulation. Since hot air rises, your heat could be escaping and going elsewhere. It could also mean that the heat isn’t entering the room in the first place. So, it is best to check your furnace to see if it is working properly.
Ice Dams
Icicles are beautiful in the winter, but they can be costly. They are formed when heat escapes from your roof, causing the snow to melt and form icicles. Additionally, this means heat is escaping from your attic and melting the snow. If this is the case, it is best to check your attic insulation to make sure there is enough of it and that it is of a sufficient R-value.
